Axcess Payment Services, the technology division of Axcess Payments Group, has strengthened its senior leadership team with the appointment of former Detective Superintendent Steven Greenbank as Financial Crimes and Policy Manager.

Steven joins Axcess Payment Services following a distinguished 30-year career with the police, where he held a number of senior operational and investigative roles across Yorkshire and the North of England, culminating in his position as Head of Intelligence and Digital Forensics with West Yorkshire Police.

Throughout his policing career, Steven led major investigations, safeguarding programmes and intelligence operations, overseeing teams of more than 400 staff. His experience spans organised crime, child protection, digital forensics, drugs enforcement and intelligence gathering, along with supporting the protection of Members of Parliament and other high-profile individuals.

In his new role at Axcess Payment Services, Steven will be responsible for anti-money laundering (AML), anti-corruption measures and policy development, helping to ensure the company remains at the forefront of financial crime prevention and regulatory compliance.

Independent perspective

Steven says his move into the payments industry was driven by a desire to continue protecting people and organisations while bringing an independent perspective to the business.

“After 30 years in policing, I wasn’t ready to retire and wanted to use the experience I’ve gained to help businesses stay safe and compliant,” he says.

“I’ve always been passionate about prevention. Whether it’s protecting vulnerable people, tackling organised crime or investigating complex offences, the principle is the same: no one should be allowed to steal money or take advantage of others. My background has given me a naturally curious mindset and a determination to dig deeper, find the facts and follow the evidence.”

Steven believes the fight against financial crime requires constant vigilance as criminals continue to adapt their methods and exploit emerging technologies.

“Financial crime is constantly evolving. When one avenue closes, criminals look for another opportunity. Money laundering is an international challenge, and funds can move across multiple jurisdictions very quickly. Organisations need the right people, processes and technology in place to stay one step ahead.”

Strong compliance structure

He adds that one of his priorities at Axcess will be helping to build on the company’s already strong compliance culture.

“My focus will be on professionalism, communication and collaboration. I want to establish clear baselines, support colleagues across the business and help create an environment where we can continue to strengthen our approach to financial crime prevention.”

Steven also praises the investment Axcess has made in risk management and payment security.

“Axcess has built a robust risk team and invested heavily in payment data security. The business has the structures and expertise in place to identify anomalies and potential risks, and I’m looking forward to contributing my experience to help make those controls even stronger.”

Away from work, Steven lives in Silsden and is a lifelong Bradford City supporter and season ticket holder. He enjoys walking, having completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, and spending time with his family, including walks with his dogs, Des and Rita.

Looking ahead, Steven says success in his first year will be measured not only by strengthening compliance frameworks, but also by building relationships and supporting colleagues across the organisation.
